About Kara

When you don’t know what books you want to read next, or you’re looking for a gift for that relative that is hard to shop for but you’re pretty sure he or she likes books, then Ink and Paper is one of the stops that you want. My reviews are always 100% honest, and I get as specific as possible about what I liked and didn’t like about each book to give you a better idea on if you want to use it or not.

I’ve been interviewed on NPR for my reviews on Swoonreads and mentioned on various author’s websites. Before starting my blog, I worked at an online magazine called Differences as a Blogging Bookworm for over a year. After working with the other bookworms and with my editor, I learned how to write a good, reliable book review.

I am living in Maine with two dogs and a cat. When I’m not playing fetch with my cat (no, that’s not a typo) or petting my dogs, I love knitting, playing the flute, and hanging out with friends and my very awesome boyfriend. And, of course, I love reading πŸ™‚

Kara. What type of “Everything in between” topics are you referring to? Is there anything specific that you blog about? If you have other posts let me know, I would like to read what your working on.

Wendy. I blog mainly about books I’ve read, writing tips for aspiring authors, and ideas and pieces of my stories, but “Everything in between” refers to things that relate to reading and writing but don’t fall strictly into the catagories of book reviews, writing tips, and samples of my work. Like if I write an article on an aspiring author, or do a compare and contrast between to writers, or writing styles, or even review a movie/tv series based on a book. That’s what I mean by everything in between. My blog is mainly about reading and writing, and any posts I’ve written you can find on my blog.

Hey! I love your blog. Your reviews are super helpful when finding something new to read. I saw you over on swoonreads, and I was hoping you might be able to check out my novel, The Things That Break Us? If not, totally okay! Thanks so much! http://www.swoonreads.com/m/the-things-that-break-us

Well darn I see someone beat me to the punch! I saw your profile on Swoonreads and I felt a kinship. I loved Meg Cabot novels and still do and Libba Bray, she set the scene magnificently in the Gemma Doyle trilogy! Your blog pulls me in, which I find many don’t and I have nothing like this set up yet, little afraid of the whole digital stuff. I am going to be uploading my own debut novel The Ghostly Girl this week to Swoonreads, Thought you might enjoy it, will be under paranormal.

      Hi Meg,
I’m glad you like my blog! And yes, Libba Bray and Meg Cabot are two of my favorite writers. It’s impossible for me to put down their books. I’m a little behind on my reading right now, but I’ll get to your book as soon as I can, it looks really interesting. Also, I know some of the digital stuff is a little intimidating and it took me a little bit to figure it out myself, but it’s pretty simple after awhile, and it’s a lot of fun building a platform.
      Thanks for commenting!

  7. Thank you for being so in depth on your reviews. You saved me from reading yet another book I would only finish because I hate starting something and not finishing it. You never give spoilers but it is enough details to warn me against what I don’t like. You’re reviews are awesome!

Hi Kara! Thanks for adding my manuscript, The Bridge Between Worlds, to your currently reading on Swoonreads! I would love for you to read it and rate it and let me know what you think, and I’ll read and review your novel! Us writers have to stick together!

    • Kara Skinner says:

Hi Emily! Thank you for the offer! I’ll try to get to your book soon. I have over a hundred on my currently reading list and right now I’m reading another book but I’ll read yours next. Thanks for the comment. πŸ™‚
